Dehradun. To stop the spread of COVID-19, the government of Uttarakhand has made the wearing of masks mandatory in both private and government schools. The Director General of Education for Uttarakhand, Bansidhar Tiwari, said that students, teachers, and other staff at these schools will be required to wear masks and undergo thermal screening and use sanitizer.

He said, instructions for schools to implement social distancing measures and conduct awareness campaigns about COVID-19 have been issued. Previously, the Karnataka government made masks mandatory in schools and colleges due to a rise in COVID cases in various countries.

Teachers at the schools have been instructing students to wear masks. The Health Secretary of Uttarakhand recently reviewed the COVID-19 situation and directed officials to follow guidelines from the government for identifying, isolating, testing, and managing suspected and confirmed cases of COVID-19.

According to the Union Health Ministry, the next 40 days will be critical for India as there may be a surge in COVID cases in mid-January. Hospitals in India have conducted a mock drill to evaluate their preparedness for a potential increase in COVID cases. International travelers arriving at Indian airports have also been randomly tested for COVID, with 39 testing positive between December 24-26.
