Varanasi. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has introduced a new tourism policy enabling residents in the outskirts and rural areas of Varanasi to convert their homes into home stays for tourists. This policy change aims to provide tourists visiting Kashi with a convenient accommodation option, as the city has experienced a significant increase in visitors in recent years, particularly following the establishment of Shrikashi Vishwanath Dham.

With hotels and lodges in the city at capacity due to high demand, tourists have previously had limited options for where to stay. The new policy allows them to stay in the homes of local residents and immerse themselves in the culture and food of the village.

With the implementation of a new policy, residents in the outskirts and rural areas of Varanasi will have the opportunity to turn their homes into home stays for tourists. This will allow visitors to experience the culture and food of the village, and may also encourage local residents to convert their homes into home stays and contribute to the development of facilities and infrastructure in the area.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had an economic impact on the tourism industry in India, causing many entrepreneurs to hesitate to invest in the sector. In response to this, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has amended its tourism policy based on feedback from hotel associations and investors in the industry. The new policy is expected to bring significant changes to the sector and allows individuals to convert their homes into home stays for tourists.

According to Tourism Department, individuals interested in converting their homes into home stays for tourists can complete the necessary process to do so.
