Varanasi. The Indian Railways has made progress in its mission to improve the pilgrimage route between Varanasi and Prayagraj. According to the Ministry of Railways, the Varanasi-Madhosingh-Prayagraj Doubling Project has achieved 91% physical completion. The project aims to increase operational efficiency and reduce congestion on the existing line.

The Varanasi-Madhosingh-Prayagraj Doubling Project is 120.2 km in length, with an estimated cost of Rs 1293.58 crores. To date, 100.73 km has been commissioned, leaving only 20 km remaining until the project is finished. The project, which began on December 31, 2016, is expected to be completed by December 31, 2023.

Prayagraj (previously known as Allahabad) and Varanasi are two of India's oldest cities, each with their own religious significance. Prayagraj is renowned for its Triveni Sangam, while Varanasi is famous for its "ghats". The two cities are approximately 120 km apart.
