In Varanasi, a concerning incident took place involving a female student from IIT BHU who was with friends on the BHU IIT campus late on Wednesday night, raising concerns. On Saturday, more than five young men from the Susuwahi area were taken into custody. They were accused of harassing a female student at IIT BHU, and the police caught them using security camera footage. The police are questioning them to find out what happened.

Police Investigation

Five police teams, including the Crime Branch, have been deployed to apprehend the three accused. They are currently reviewing footage from more than 215 CCTV cameras and collecting information from informants. However, as of early Saturday, it remains uncertain whether the three accused were identified on the bike. The victim student was shown photos of the detained suspects based on their suspicious activities and past criminal history, but she denied their involvement. Police Commissioner Mutha Ashok Jain stated that their teams are consistently applying pressure, interrogating individuals engaged in suspicious activities, and reviewing CCTV footage with the goal of capturing the three accused soon.

According to the police, after analyzing the CCTV footage, it is evident that the three young men on the motorcycle emerged from the Hyderabad Gate and proceeded towards the bypass. What happened after the bypass remains unknown, as most of the nighttime CCTV camera footage is unclear.

The students are maintaining communication with their hostels and have been instructed to report any issues promptly. The privacy and security of both the student and her friend are being given utmost attention, and the IIT BHU's Protctorial Board has been alerted to prioritize their safety.

Protests by Students and Demands for Enhanced Security Measures

Additionally, news of BHU constructing walls has led to protests by thousands of students on Saturday, resulting in class boycotts in various faculties, including the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Sanskrit Vidya Dharm Vigyan, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Commerce, and Institute of Agricultural Sciences. The students are opposing BHU's division under the pretext of security and are demanding enhanced security measures at BHU.

Meanwhile, a poster featuring the university's Vice-Chancellor has gone viral on social media. Furthermore, Ashish Kumar, a student in BHU's Art Department, has created a painting illustrating the incident. The viral poster showcases the image of Vice-Chancellor Sudhir Jain, replacing Amitabh Bachchan. The painting depicts the incident and portrays Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, the founder of BHU, with tears in his eyes. This painting was completed in seven hours.


Incident That Took Place

On a late Wednesday night, three individuals on a motorbike harassed a female student from IIT BHU, who was out with friends on the BHU IIT campus. Upon learning about the incident, 2500 students protested for 11 hours on Thursday, November 2nd. Late at night, students continued their protest to voice their demands. In the meantime, the IIT-BHU Director's Office issued a circular stating that barricades on the campus would be closed from 10 PM to 5 AM to ensure the safety of employees and students. As the case escalated, the police and the director of IIT-BHU held a late-night meeting with the students, assuring them that all the accused would be apprehended within seven days, and they would face a punishment that they would remember for life. Following this assurance, the students concluded their eleven-hour protest.
