Varanasi: In a significant development, the Varanasi police have made a major breakthrough in the recent series of child kidnapping cases that have plagued the city. Taking the lead from the circulation of a viral video capturing a child theft incident in the Bhelupur area, authorities sprang into action, resulting in the successful arrest of ten individuals, including three women, on charges of child trafficking.

The joint operation, led by the Surveillance and Crime Branch of Varanasi, culminated in the recovery of three minor children from the custody of the accused. Police investigations have revealed that the children were being stolen and subsequently sold to individuals in need, commanding prices ranging from two to five lakh rupees.

During interrogation, the arrested individuals, identified as members of a well-organized gang, disclosed their modus operandi. They admitted to systematically abducting small children and engaging brokers to sell them in states such as Rajasthan, Bihar, and Jharkhand. Commissioner of Police Mutha Ashok Jain, commended the entire team involved in apprehending the child-lifting suspects and announced a cash prize of Rs one lakh to honor their commendable efforts.

The joint operation involved police teams from multiple police stations, including Lanka, Cantt, and Bhelupur.
