Varanasi: In the Revdi Talab area, a distressing incident occurred at the cemetery, where a young man was found asleep beside the deadbody of a five year old girl, removed from the grave.

Following information provided by the grieving father of the young girl, the police from Luxa station apprehended the suspect. The incident unfolded during the treatment of the deceased daughter of Sadanand Bazar, a resident of the Dashashwamedh area, who passed away in the hospital last Wednesday. Her burial occurred around 9:30 PM in the Revdi Talab cemetery. The father, upon visiting the grave on Thursday afternoon, noticed unusual soil and became suspicious. Upon investigation, he found the grave empty and promptly reported the disappearance of his daughter's remains to the police.

In response, Luxa police took custody of the girl's body and detained Mohammad Rafiq, also known as Chhotu, who was discovered in an inebriated state beside the corpse. Notably, Chhotu is employed for grave digging in the cemetery.

During questioning, the arrested Rafiq, appearing sober, claimed he was too intoxicated to comprehend his actions. He reassured the police that he had not committed any wrongdoing with the girl's remains and expressed a willingness to face the consequences of the heinous act that occurred without his awareness. ASP Dashashwamedh Avadhesh Kumar Pandey stated that a case has been registered, and additional charges will be added if the postmortem report confirms any foul play with the girl's remains.
