Jaunpur. On Sunday morning, a woman died while taking a bath in a bathroom with a gas geyser in Dilawarpur locality, Madiyahun, Jaunpur.

The victim, Shivani Jaiswal, 25-year-old daughter-in-law of BJP leader Chhote Lal Jaiswal, a former councilor of Dilawarpur Nagar Panchayat, went to the bathroom to take a bath in the morning.

When she did not come out after a prolonged period, her relatives called out to her, and upon receiving no response, they hurriedly broke open the door fearing an untoward incident.

Shivani was found lying near death in the bathroom, with the geyser still on. Her family members immediately took her to the hospital, where the doctors declared her brought dead.

The relatives claim that the cause of death was suffocation due to the gas emitted by the geyser. However, the police say that the cause of death will be clear only from the post-mortem report. Shivani was the daughter of Pradeep Jaiswal, a resident of Bai Ka Bagh, Prayagraj, and she got married in the year 2019.

The trend of gas geysers has been rapidly increasing in recent times, as they are easily available in the market and their cost is also less as compared to electronic geysers.
This has resulted in them being preferred for relief in winter.

However, this relief should not turn into a disaster, for which special care needs to be taken.

LPG is required to run the gas geyser, and while running on LPG, it emits dangerous gas, which can cause harm. In light of this tragic incident, the authorities have issued preventive measures to ensure the safe usage of gas geysers.

These include getting the geyser installed outside the bathroom, having a ventilation system in the bathroom, not operating the gas geyser for more than five minutes at a time, and taking special care for children.

In case of an accident, the authorities have advised to immediately take the person who has fainted in the bathroom to the open air, make them lie on one side, and not give any liquid to an unconscious person before arranging for an ambulance to take them to the hospital immediately.

It is not recommended to install a gas geyser in a closed space such as a bathroom or kitchen due to the potential for carbon monoxide buildup.

Always ensure that ventilators are open and the exhaust fan is on when using the geyser in these areas.

Regularly have the geyser checked for leaks or other issues.

Avoid keeping the geyser running all day and take breaks between use.

In case of an emergency, quickly move the victim to an open space and turn off the geyser before entering the bathroom.
