Midnight Shuffle: Ashok Mutha Jain will be the new Varanasi Police Commissioner

Lucknow/Varanasi:The Uttar Pradesh government reshuffled 16 Indian Police Service officers on Monday night as part of a significant administrative change.

Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved the implementation of the police commissionerate system in Prayagraj, Agra, and Ghaziabad. With the appointment of chiefs for three newly constituted police commissionerates, sixteen IPS officers were transferred including the Varanasi Police Commissioner. Outgoing Police Commissioner A Satish Ganesh has been made Additional Director General of Police, DGP Office. Former NCB DDG 1995 batch IPS Ashok Mutha Jain, who recently returned from central deputation, has been given the command of the Varanasi Police Commissionerate.

Out of the 75 districts, seven will now be under a commissionerate system of law enforcement.

As the first female police commissioner in the state, Laxmi Singh, the Inspector General of Police (IG), Lucknow range, has been given the responsibility of Noida.

Preetinder Singh, the IG (Prisons), will be the first Police Commissioner of Agra, while Ajay Mishra, the IG in waiting, will be the first Police Commissioner of Ghaziabad. Ramit Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Bareilly, has been appointed as the first Police Commissioner of Prayagraj, and Tarun Gaba, IG (Home), has been transferred to the Lucknow range.

Keshav Kumar, who will take over as Additional Police Commissioner, Agra, will be replaced as the SP of Bahraich by Prashant Verma, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) from Ayodhya. Ghaziabad SSP, Muniraj will be the new Ayodhya SSP. Prayagraj SSP, Shailesh Pandey will go to Mathura in the same capacity to replace Abhishek Yadav, who will take over as SP (Intelligence). Agra SSP, Prabhakar Chaudhary goes to PAC Sitapur as Commandant.
