Varanasi, known as the spiritual capital of India, witnessed a significant increase in the number of people visiting for the occasion of Mahashivratri this year. As per the latest data shared by Varanasi Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma, the headcount of people visiting the city for the celebrations on Saturday, stood at an impressive 688,567.

Last year, in 2022, the headcount data for deities was recorded at 550,712, significantly lower than this year's numbers. This indicates a massive increase in the number of people visiting Varanasi to celebrate Mahashivratri. Commissioner Kaushal Raj Sharma credited the increased footfall to the effective measures taken by the administration to ensure the smooth conduct of the celebrations.

The celebrations in Varanasi saw devotees from different parts of the country coming together to offer prayers and seek blessings from Lord Shiva. The city was beautifully decorated with lights, and the atmosphere was filled with the chants of "Har Har Mahadev."

This year, the celebration of Mahashivratri in Varanasi was a grand success, and it once again reinforced the significance of this festival in the lives of millions of devotees across the country. The surge in footfall is a testament to the devotion and faith that people have in Lord Shiva and the importance of this festival in their lives.
