Prayagraj. In a major breakthrough, the Government Railway Police (GRP) Prayagraj has foiled a suspected money laundering attempt and apprehended a suspect carrying a massive amount of ₹33 lakh in cash. The GRP officials, led by Prayagraj station in-charge Rajeev Ranjan Upadhyay, acted swiftly and caught the suspect while he was boarding the Jodhpur-Howrah train from platform number 4/5 at the Prayagraj Junction railway station.

Upon questioning, the person introduced himself as Sachin Dattu Garle and stated that he resided in Garlewadi Post Kaledhon Taluka Khatav District Satara Maharashtra. He was unable to provide a valid explanation for carrying a large sum of money. Circle Officer Railway Prayagraj Sunita Singh supervised the vigilant GRP team that grew doubtful of the individual and conducted a search which led to the discovery of the cash inside the backpack.

The suspect was taken to the police station Haja, where the cash was counted in the presence of Senior Sub Inspector Rajesh Kumar Singh, Sub Inspector Suryakant Pandit, Head Constable Ravish Chandra Yadav, Head Constable Chandan Kumar, Head Constable Brijendra Kumar Yadav, and Head Constable Mehboob Ahmed. The income tax department was informed about the incident as the individual could not produce any clear documentation for the cash.

The GRP's ongoing campaign to prevent theft incidents in railway stations, circulating areas, and trains is being carried out on the instructions of senior officials ADG Railway A. Satish Ganesh, Inspector General Railway Satyendra Kumar Singh, DIG Anant Dev, and Superintendent of Police Prayagraj Ashtabhuja Prasad Singh.
