Varanasi. City is all set to introduce modern CNG buses to its public transport system in a move aimed at developing a Green Corridor and reducing the number of diesel buses operating in the city. This decision has been made in light of the increasing number of tourists visiting the city, and the need to reduce the environmental pollution caused by diesel buses.

According to Gaurav Verma, Regional Manager of UPSRTC, Varanasi Region, five CNG buses will soon be introduced to the city. Alongside this, the operation of 150 diesel buses will continue. However, the number of diesel buses will be reduced as electric and CNG buses are gradually phased in. In the first phase of the project, 30 buses will be operated by the Transport Corporation.

The introduction of CNG buses will not only provide better public transport options but also reduce traffic congestion in the city. The routes of these buses will include Ramnagar, Padav, Rajatalab, Phulpur, Pindra, and other routes in and around Varanasi.

Gaurav Verma has said that the CNG buses will be equipped with modern facilities such as comfortable seating, charging points, and CCTV cameras. These buses will be as smart as the electric buses already in use in the city.

The decision to introduce CNG buses is expected to have a positive impact on the environment, as the use of compressed natural gas as fuel emits significantly fewer harmful emissions than diesel. It is also expected to boost tourism by providing better public transport services for both residents and visitors to the city.

The preparations for introducing CNG buses in Varanasi are currently underway, and the launch date is expected to be announced soon. This move is seen as a positive step towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly transport system in the city.
