Varanasi. In a significant ruling by the MP-MLA Court of Varanasi, Mukhtar Ansari, a well-known mafia leader and a longstanding source of fear in Purvanchal, has been given a life sentence for his role in the sensational killing of Congress leader Awadhesh Rai three decades ago. This verdict comes after relentless efforts by Ajay Rai, the deceased's brother, and the unwavering backing of the UP Police Prosecution Department, guided by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. At long last, justice has been delivered.

Conviction of Mukhtar Ansari holds immense significance, considering his long history of evading punishment for over 50 cases. Despite his notorious status, the last year has witnessed a turning point as he has been convicted in four cases, including the 1991 murder of Awadhesh Rai, a crime that sent shockwaves through the region.

The murder took place on August 3, 1991, when Awadhesh Rai was brutally gunned down in front of his younger brother, Ajay Rai, in Varanasi's Lahurabir area. Ajay Rai, witnessing the tragic incident unfold before his eyes, immediately raised an alarm but received no assistance from the nearby Chetganj police station. With determination in his heart, Ajay Rai pursued the van used by the assailants, desperate for justice.

For the past 32 years, Ajay Rai and his family have fought tirelessly to ensure Mukhtar Ansari faces the consequences of his actions. Alongside lodging an FIR against former MLAs Abdul Kalam, Bhim Singh, Kamlesh Singh, Rakesh, and other miscreants, Ajay Rai continued his quest for justice. The case against Mukhtar Ansari proceeded in the MP-MLA court of Varanasi, with two accused already deceased and two others awaiting trial in the Prayagraj District Court.

The Rai family's unwavering determination was met with strong support from the UP Police Prosecution Department under the guidance of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Twelve witnesses came forward to testify, shedding light on the heinous crime committed by Mukhtar Ansari. Additionally, the Rai family's relentless lobbying efforts played a crucial role in ensuring the case reached this pivotal point. Despite Mukhtar Ansari's attempts to manipulate the judicial process, including making the original file disappear, justice prevailed.

Expressing his gratitude, Ajay Rai thanked the lawyers and supporters who stood by him throughout the arduous journey. He placed his complete trust in the court and acknowledged the satisfaction that justice had been served after three decades. The entire Rai family, deeply affected by the incident, found solace in the fact that their 32 years of struggle and penance had culminated in Mukhtar Ansari's punishment.

The conviction of Mukhtar Ansari in the Awadhesh Rai murder case not only brings closure to a long-standing battle for justice but also sends a powerful message that criminals will be held accountable, regardless of their influence or criminal record. The consistent pursuance of the case by Ajay Rai and the UP Police Prosecution Department, under the guidance of UP CM Yogi Adityanath, exemplifies the commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety and security of citizens in Uttar Pradesh.
